Easy Traditional Christmas Pudding Recipes

Usually, most of us prefer to keep room in our stomach while having the main course for desserts. Any version of dessert would go for a sweet tooth, as always, they would indulge to their fullest. For some special occasion like Christmas in July or December, we may try to prepare plum pudding at home.

Here you will get two version of our favourite traditional Christmas pudding. You will have lots of fun preparing them at home. People are using these recipes for years and we would never get sick of them. Easy Peasy

Ingredients:

  • Plain flour (All purpose) – 2 cups (250gm)
  • Eggs – 5
  • Butter – 280gm
  • Dark brown sugar – 1 ½ cups (Lightly packed)
  • Mixed dried fruit – 1kg (Nuts, Figs, Prunes, Dates, Apricots to taste)
  • Sour cream – 300ml
  • Ground nutmeg – ¼ tsp
  • Salt – ¼ tsp
  • Mixed spice – ¼ tsp
  • Rum – 1cup
  • Bicarbonate of Soda – ½ tsp

Procedure:

Soak all the dried fruit and nuts in rum overnight. May soaked them for several weeks for extra flavours. Now beat the butter and sugar to the cream. Add eggs to that mixture one at a time. Mix in flour and spices now. Add that soaked fruit and nuts. Stir them well and mix them properly. Put the mixture in a pudding mould or basin. Seal the lid tightly.

May use a piece of string for this purpose. Place the mould in a pot with boiling water. Make sure the water level should never cross the halfway of the basin. Boil for 3 to 6 hours depending on the size of the mould you use.

Chop-Chop

Ingredients:

  • Self-raising flour – 2cups (250gm)
  • Orange juice – 2cups (500ml)
  • Mixed fruit (Dried) – ½ kg
  • Mixed spice – 1tsp (Heaped)

Procedure:

Put all the dried fruits in a ceramic bowl. Add pure orange juice to it. Mix them well. Cover it with a fine cloth or sheet. Now keep them in a fridge for overnight rest. After a whole night soaking, take them out. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees C.

Get a large pudding mould and grease it with butter. Now add flour and spice to the soaked fruit. Mix them properly. Pour them into the prepared mould and back it for 1 ½ hour. If it gets brown too fast, cover with foil.
